The appeal of "Bloodthirst", then, is likely to rest on your answer to the question "how much Cannibal Corpse do you really need"? If you enjoy the formula, haven't tired of it, and want to hear more material in the same vein, "Bloodthirst" is exactly what you're looking for. "Bloodthirst" is not that much different from the other Cannibal Corpse recording with George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher (which in turn were not an incredible distance removed from the Chris Barnes era) there are the prerequisite detuned grinding guitars, hyperspeed blastbeat drumming, and vocals that sound like Fisher's larynx is being put through a garbage disposal, plus lyrics geared for maximum gore and shock value. Sure, their musicianship has gotten a little more polished, and they've perfected their formula a bit more, but it's essentially been the same vibe on every album throughout their career. It's rather remarkable how little the band's sound has changed over the course of an entire decade. The seventh full-length studio album by legendary American Brutal Death Metal band.
This is great stuff!īanned in Australia, New Zealand and Korea, this album is brutal, fast as hell, aggressive and intense!! This is easily one of Cannibal's best, and it's genuinely recommended as a starting point when looking to get into the Corpsegrinder era of the band!!!
Fans won't be disappointed with numbers like "Hatchet to the Head", "Compelled to Lacerate", and the exquisite "Sanded Faceless". Most impressively, the album remains interesting from front to back, thanks to concise song lengths and a healthy variety of tempos, which alternate from rat-tat-tat machine gun-style onslaughts to chugging mid-tempo mosh sections (check out "Dormant Bodies Bursting" to hear it all in one song). Their relentless combination of neck-snapping Death Metal beats, sinister detuned guitar riffs, and Cookie Monster vocals is harrowing and fun at the same time, and the execution is better than that of most similar bands.
